Diet & Nutrition

Our general dentists will review your child’s diet and nutrition with you during their regular appointments. Diet plays a large role in oral health, and we are committed to giving you the knowledge and tools you need to help keep your child healthy. Call us today to learn more about diet and nutrition in Conroe and Montgomery, Texas, and schedule an appointment with Dr. Timothy Gardner and Dr. Todd Leiker.

Your child’s diet and nutrition affects their oral health as well as their overall health and wellbeing. For example, a lack of proper nutrition increases their risk of developing problems such as defects in the tooth enamel, gum disease and oral cancer. Likewise, too much sugar increases their risk of developing cavities.

There are many nutrients that work to keep your child’s teeth and gums healthy and protected from oral diseases. Vitamin A, for example, aids in tooth formation, and Vitamin B, helps your child’s teeth, gums and tongue to function correctly.

As each child has a unique metabolism, some nutrients may benefit your child more than others. When you bring your child to our office, we will review their current diet and oral health with you to determine which types of nutrients will be most beneficial for their health, and go over any changes to your child’s eating habits that you may need to help them make. There are also a few basic steps you can take at home to help your child maintain a healthy diet and lifestyle. These include:

  • Reading food labels
  • Limiting your child’s intake of sugary foods
  • Providing them with fresh foods and vegetables
  • Encourage them to drink water instead of sugary drinks
  • Help them maintain a diet high in calcium and phosphorus
  • Help the brush and floss regularly
